Good place to start

I guess this is a good place to start with my first post, since I'll be putting our story in a page at the top of the blog. Check the drop down box for our actual story if you would like to learn more about us or how to contact us. For now I guess I have to show off our nursery!

We've been working on/planning on/working towards/trying to have kids since 2008 and we've been slowly collecting items and things for a nursery. We started out slowly thinking that it would simply be smart to spend the money slowly over time instead of all at once and we still agree with that. Except that all that stuff has taken up an entire room for a few years now, with no baby in sight! We never turned it into a real nursery though, simply because we never allowed ourselves to hope that much or get that close to letting ourselves believe we would become parents.

When we decided on adoption, things felt much more "real" and things just started falling into place. It just felt right. It also felt right to go ahead and move forward with the nursery. Lauren really wanted a retro theme with color and wanted to stay away from the soft cutesy colors she saw in some rooms. Bright colors actually help stimulate baby's eyes and helps with brain development, so it never made sense to paint in pastels! Instead, lets slap some color on those walls!

She wanted a retro themed 70's ish kind of vibe, so we went with a mix of dark color on two walls and a vibrant horizontal rainbow on the other. We wouldn't say it was easy to do, but we had help!

Lauren offered to paint both of the dark walls while Clint and his Dad worked on the more intricate stripes

Red Lining the stripes so we get straight lines!
The Color Scheme

The stripes are underway!

We're making some movement! You can see the "hidey-hole" we've cut in between the room and the playroom. It is similar to the play holes you see at IKEA and we think it's SO CUTE and SO FUN! Perfect child size and also has a door to close off the rooms as needed

We think it looks RAD! So cool, so retro, just the look we wanted. Clint is painstakingly working in the stripes
